Make It Your Own Fall Retreat with Fabulous Dinners and Yoga

As cool fall breezes roll off the St. Lawrence River, the leaves colors are peaking. This fall, you can make your own fall retreat with a delectable dining experience and cozy respite at the 1000 Islands Harbor Hotel, and a relaxing yoga class at River Yoga.

1000ihh-panorama-waterfrontFall feasting kicks off Thursday, Oct. 20 at 6 p.m. with a Farm-to-Table Dinner that will showcase the region’s bounty from area farms including Cross Island Farms, Farmhouse Maple and Burrville Cider Mill. The six-course meal and spirit pairings by Eagle Beverage features a Beef Tongue Carpaccio paired with Hazlitt Cider Tree; Oxtail Sauerbraten Stew paired with an 1812 Bourbon Whiskey; Tomato Granita Caprese paired with a Backstage Gin; and Suckling Pig paired with McKenzie’s Black Cherry Hard Cider. Dinner is priced at $89 per person, plus tax and service charges. Guests can also opt to enjoy dinner for two and overnight accommodation, starting at $297.

On Friday, Nov. 18 at 6 p.m. the epicurean adventure continues with a Wild Game Dinner featuring beer pairings by Wood Boat Brewery. The six-course menu includes Crispy Duck Wing With Pickled Red Beet and Cucumber Salad, paired with Pardon Me Pale Ale; Rabbit Confit With New York Apple Slaw, paired with Wood Boat Brewery Hard Cider; Blackened Elk Loin With Boar Belly and Black Eyed Pea Succotash, paired with Oatmeal Stout; and an Aussie Burger With Hand-Cut Steak Fries, paired with Channelmarker IPA. Dinner is $89 per person, plus tax and service charges. To make a night of it, guests can book overnight accommodations and their dinner for two, starting at $297.

Personally, I will be enjoying one of the 1000 Islands Harbor Hotel’s Sunset & S’mores events featuring a decadent menu of s’mores and savory cocktails. Every Thursday from 5-9 p.m. guests are invited to gather round the fire pit on the hotel’s patio overlooking the St. Lawrence for out-of-the-box s’more recipes, ranging from The King – a graham cracker piled with peanut butter cups, banana, marshmallow and maple candied bacon – to theFramboise Crème – a s’more with raspberry and white chocolate mascarpone. Pair it with The Elvis Presley – a blend of vodka, Irish cream, Frangelico and crème de banana –  or Toasted Almond – a martini with Kahlua, amaretto and half and half. Guests can snack and sip to live tunes by Eric Fulton from 5-7 p.m. One s’more with any cocktail is $15.95. A second s’more can be added for $5.95.

I will be following up my wonderful meal with a Autumn Practice with Breath and Movement at River Yoga to complete my self-made retreat. A walk along the waterfront to take in the fresh air and enjoy the sights of Clayton is also a must.
