Children’s Clothing and Health Correlation

Of course, we all want for our children to be as safe as possible, and we are doing whatever we can do to ensure that. However, we rarely pay attention to the seemingly unimportant factors for our kids’ health, such as the clothes they wear. When was the last time you have thought about the correlation between your children’s clothes and their health? Yes, this is not a topic that is often discussed, but we are here to make sure that you have all the tea. What are the things that might affect your child’s health, what can you do and how? Take a look:

How can clothing harm children in the first place?

Anything can cause harm, and you cannot be fully safe. However, one feature that we never question are the clothes that kids wear. The most common ways kids can injure themselves with clothes is, for example, if a hood drawstring gets stuck on the playground, or in the car or a bus and tugs at their neck too hard. The buttons are another risk factor, as you kid might swallow one. As far as the shoes are concerned, shoes that are too big, or shoes that do not have good grip might result in your kid falling down and getting hurt.

Clothes as precaution

Even though some clothes might cause injuries and may not actually be very healthy for the kid, there are clothes that can help you out and that you can use as precaution. For example, since sun rays are incredibly harmful, you might want to go with clothes that prevent the harmful UV rays from penetrating into the skin of your kid. This is even more important if you are from a country with a predominately hot climate. If this is the case with you, and you’re based in the Land Down Under for example, then you might want to buy high-quality kids hats in Australia that are made in order to protect your kid from the UV rays. This is a great option to ensure the health of your child, and you can also find such hats in other countries, or you can order them online and have them delivered. Moreover, there are also clothes that are made from materials that will keep your kid healthier than ever. One such fabric is bamboo, as it is known for its ability to deal with bacteria and prevent them from getting close to a child’s skin.

Speaking of fabric

While we are still on the topic of fabric, what do you know about the harmful ingredients that we are constantly wearing? Natural fabrics can also be manufactured with chemicals, especially if you are buying clothes with logos and different colors. Yes, it is true that some of them are made using natural materials, but this coloring treatment comes only after the actual garment is made. This is why our clothes, and so the clothes of our children, include ingredients such as ammonia, caustic soda, dioxin-producing bleach, sulfonamides, sulfuric acid and urea resins.

How to choose the right clothes?

This is a question that is very difficult to answer. It seems that in this day and age it is very difficult to actually find things and clothes that are healthy, but there are certain words that might help you out in the process. Actually, there are words that indicate the use of toxic chemicals, and it is precisely these clothes that you want to stay away from. If you see one of the following words, make sure to opt for something else:

  • Moisture-wicking
  • Moth-repellant
  • Odor-resistant
  • Stain-proof
  • Static-resistant
  • Wrinkle-free

Why? Because many manufacturers spray their products with a formaldehyde formula in order to ensure the things they promise on the label.

One might think that picking clothes for the kid is the easiest task, and this is where they would be wrong. There are so many different things to take into consideration and to think about, so just refer to this list when you need to do so.
