We live in a hurried world. Rushing from home to work and back; stopping for quick cups of a favorite drink, asking quick questions and being quick about it. Learning to slow down, breathe and relax seems a challenge. Enter the Vanitea Room and you will be transported to a time when having tea was a relaxing social affair.

My Sweetheart and I were excited to participate in the Vanitea Room’s grand opening day. It is fittingly located in an old house at 551 Somerset St West at the corner of Bay St.

Once inside we are greeted with a beautiful decor that is distinctly luxurious Victorian.  It was designed by One80’s Shannon Smithers Gay who has also masterminded the King Eddy, Salt and The Savoy Brasserie.

Take special note of the luscious mural in the main room reminding us the British Tea Culture from whence this tea room was inspired.

The total occupancy of the location is 28 seats. So you will never feel overcrowded or rushed. Don’t bother bringing in your laptop, the Vanitea Room intentionally has no Wifi. You are here to be present and relax with your company.

We started by ordering a pot of tea for each of us.  We selected from a tasty choice  of 12 Sloane teas. I ordered the Filo Tartelette while Sweetheart had the full breakfast tray. Every pastry is made on location and I can declare that everything was yummy.  The menu changes with the time of day, offering lighter fare in the morning to more substantial offerings in the evening.

I believe the owners, Hind and Chanel, have got a wonderful jewel in this busy world. They made a commitment to one vision, creating a memorable moment. A moment which lies in the delight of a wonderful environment, sipping a heavenly cup of tea and adoring the plate of food presented. An moment where you can breathe, relax, and enjoy social interaction, beautiful ambiance and delicious cuisine.
