7 Ways to Help Fight Allergies

As spring rolls in, so do allergies. The sun is out, and plants are pollinating, adding to the amount of pollen in the air. Unfortunately, the pollen comes with many allergies that make most people dread the sun they might have been looking forward to all winter. If you have severe allergies during spring, here are some of the ways you can help fight them.

Lockout the Breeze

There is a high chance you might have spent all winter with your windows closed due to the cold. Now that spring is here, you want to let the outside air in. While this is not an entirely bad idea, it poses a danger for you. In opening the window, the air coming in will come with pollen and other allergens. You might realize that the fresh air does you more harm than good. To help deal with this, reduce the number of times you open your window. In addition, you can get yourself a 16x25x1 air filter to ensure that whatever air is coming into the house is clean and free from allergens.

Stock up on Antihistamines

One of the things you must know by now is, no matter the preventive measures you take, you will at some point get allergies. They might be mild and go away on their own, or they can get serious and need medical attention. Therefore, you must stock up on antihistamines if your allergies start acting up when you can’t make it to a hospital. The only thing you need to remember is antihistamines do not cure allergies, so do not go overboard when using them.

Wash Up

Another major cause of allergies is the dust that might be floating around the house. Many people do little cleaning during winter due to the cold, and you might realize you have been sleeping in the same blanket all season long. Now that the sun is out, you need to wash all the dusty beddings and clean areas you had not touched all winter. Remember to use mildly scented products to avoid getting an allergic reaction to the cleaning products.

Wear a Mask

While you might close your windows when you are indoors to prevent the dust and pollen from getting to you, you do not have that luxury when you leave the house. The best thing to do is to wear a mask when you are outside. It will reduce the chances of you inhaling any pollen or dust that might affect you.

Eat Healthily

One of the easiest ways to prevent your allergies from flaring up is healthy eating. Ensure you eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, especially fruits that are rich in vitamin C. They will keep your immunity levels high and prevent any allergic reaction you might have to the weather.

Hydrate

One of the things that cause allergic reactions is a dry nose. Many times when you are dehydrated, your nose will have little to no mucus. A dry nose will let allergens into your body. To ensure this does not happen, drink a lot of water and freshly squeezed fruit juice.

Avoid Air Pollutants

Since you will be moving around a lot, chances are you will either run into smokers or people starting their spring cleaning as well. Many of the people will be using products that are not healthy for you. If you can, avoid smoking joints and areas that have been cleaned with strong-smelling chemicals. If you are a smoker, cutting down on the habit or quitting it will go a long way in helping you deal with the allergies.

Allergy season does not have to mean a death sentence for you. With the few tips above, you can go ahead to live a happy and allergy-free life all spring.
