As if working out isn’t hard enough, finding the motivation to work out can sometimes be even harder. Even though we know that we will feel better after a workout, we sometimes can’t force ourselves to hit the gym. Fortunately for all of us who struggle to find the motivation to work out, there are easy and effective tricks that can help you reach your goals. Most people have a hard time winning the battle of immediate versus long-term gratification, which is why it’s important that you are able to instantly remind yourself of your long-term plans. You can do this by writing down your biggest goal on a piece of paper which you’ll put in a visible place, such as the fridge or the mirror. What is more, you can write down little messages for yourself on post-its which you can stick to your computer, or even write small reminders on your wrists. Remind yourself that it can take between a month and two for the first results to become visible, and just because you can’t see any progress immediately, it doesn’t mean you should give up.

Log your progress

Just as you’ll be reminding yourself that the results won’t be clearly visible until later, you should also write down the things you’ve been doing. This way, you’ll keep in mind how much hard work you’ve put into this project of yours. You can do this in many ways: take a photo of your body on the first day of your ‘workout journey’, write down your measurements, keep a blog or a diary of your workout sessions, and keep writing down everything you did over the following weeks and months. This will allow you to see the progress you’ve made even if the results aren’t immediately visible on your body.

Be it shallow or not, when you know that you look good in your workout gear, you’ll feel motivated to hit the gym. This will give you something to look forward to, and your mind will begin to associate the sweat with the surge of endorphins.

Hitting the snooze button every once in a while isn’t such a bad idea. Rest days were invented to help your body recover after an exhausting workout, and you will benefit from them for sure. On the other hand, you shouldn’t let yourself become too comfortable with skipping your gym sessions; otherwise, you’ll lose your motivation pretty soon. After a while, you won’t need as much motivation because workouts will become a habit.
